Project Description:
A mixed-use development for the township of Onslow; the project comprises of seven commercial tenancies and six one bedroom residential units that form a two level complex. The low lying townships flood level predictions required the street front commercial units to be elevated on a limestone plinth while the residential units at the rear of the property are elevated with steel portal frames. This in-turn created a space for off-street parking.Due to the prefabricated nature of the project it is expected on-site construction will be reduced to as little as 3 months whereas typical construction techniques can take upwards of a year, greatly reducing high construction costs associated with remote locations.A striking ribbon canopy wrapping the street elevation provides adequate protection from the elements whilst stitching the individual units together to make one whole building. The development defies the typical notion of prefabricated accommodation in a region dominated by the ‘donger’, instead opting for innovative techniques to achieve designed and considered liveable spaces within the project as well as the public domain at street level.
