Project Status: Not realised
Location: Baskerville, WA
Year: 2011

Project Description:
This house represents an unbuilt proposal for a new residence on Great Northern Highway, Baskerville, for a Croatian migrant family, the patriach of which being a construction contractor with a love of all things concrete.  The idea incorporated the extensive use of precast tilt-up concrete for the external and some internal walls, all formed on-site on the concrete floor base.  A cheap and robust building system that could be readily constructed by the owner.
Large open expanses of living area volumes were to open up onto an extensive pergola covered terrace, with a nod to traditional Mediterranean outdoor living spaces under grape vine covered pergola, and olive trees.  An outdoor cooking zone set in a limestone nook with pizza oven and barbecue was designed to serve the generous outdoor living that faces north and onto open grassed landscaping and gardens, with views to the vineyards beyond.
Arranged in a cruciform plan shape, the living areas are separated from the bedroom and washing spaces, with minimal but generous circulation spines.  Each bedroom has windows with views out to the vineyards beyond.
Unfortunately this house was never built, but it represents an amazing design none-the-less, worthy of publishing here.
